I'm obviously a newb who is trying to run Daphne for the first time with Space Ace.

I found an answer to my first problem after a search and resolved it by reinstalling Daphne, but I'm not usre what to do to get around the 2nd problem.

My sys config is a Intel Pentium 4 3.20 GHz CPU, 1.28 GB DDR400, a GEForce FX 5500 video card, and a Cobra AW-850 Deluxe sound card.

My Daphne_log.txt file looks like this:

LDV1000 : Instantaneous seeking enabled!
Setting screen width to 800
Setting screen height to 600
Set 800x600 at 32 bpp with flags: 0
Initializing sound system ...

Loading roms/ace/sa_a3_u4.bin ...

Loading roms/ace/sa_a3_u5.bin ...
8192 bytes read into memory
Could not open file : d:\daphne\mpeg\sa\sa-slates.m2v
Could not initialize laserdisc player!
Shutting down sound system...
Shutting down video display...

There is no folder in my Daphne 0.99.5 installation named "mpeg". The subdirectories I have are: Example, Framefile, Images, Pics, Roms, and Sound.

I downloaded this Daphne install package from http://www.daphne-emu.com/site3/index_hi.php as recommended at the begining of the Technical Support Thread. I have Daphne configured as described in the DaphneDocWiki Documentation webpage.

Thank you in advance for your time and patience.

P.S. - I just tried one more thing. I searched and found the file that Daphne couldn't open. I created a directory Daphne\mpeg, and copied the file the Daphne log referenced into that subdirectory mpeg. I tried to run it and the logfile is unchanged from before. Needless to say, it still wouldn't run.

I've upgraded to Daphne 0.99.7-win32, but have the same or a very similar fault.

Here is the log:

--DAPHNE version 0.99.7
--Command line is: D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\daphne.exe seektest vldp -preset 1 -framefile D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\roms\ace\sa.txt
--CPU : GenuineIntel 3200 MHz || Mem : 1280 megs
--OS : Windows XP/.NET || Video : NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
Set 640x480 at 32 bpp with flags: 0
Initializing sound system ...
No joysticks detected
Remapping input ...
Framefile parse succeeded. Video/Audio directory is: d:/daphne/mpeg/sa/
Could not open file : d:/daphne/mpeg/sa/sa-slates.m2v

All of the .m2v, .ogg, and framefile is in Daphne\roms\ace. Should I create an mpeg directory?

your framefile does not match your setup. Please read the docs concerning framefiles.

JeffreyG,

You may be able to solve your problem by trying the absolute latest beta version of Daphne. If you come to the chat room, someone should be able to show you where to get it. I don't post it on the site because I am not ready for widespread testing yet.

Can you provide the version number of the beta?

This may be off, but the first thing that came to my mind - and that I didn't see shown in the log - was whether jeffrey has an mpeg to read.....

It looks like a framefile issue (If he has his MPEG's) - as chip stated.

Also he has seektest enabled.

I wasn't able to find the latest beta of Daphne. I don't have an irc client anymore, and my browser security systems wouldn't let me connect to the chat room.

Below is: 1) my latest Daphne log from Space Ace (the framefile parse succeeded), and 2) my framefile document, sa.txt:

1) --DAPHNE version 0.99.7
--Command line is: D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\daphne.exe seektest vldp -preset 1 -framefile D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\roms\ace\sa.txt
--CPU : GenuineIntel 3200 MHz || Mem : 1280 megs
--OS : Windows XP/.NET || Video : NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
Set 640x480 at 32 bpp with flags: 0
Initializing sound system ...
No joysticks detected
Remapping input ...
Framefile parse succeeded. Video/Audio directory is: d:/daphne/mpeg/sa/
Could not open file : d:/daphne/mpeg/sa/sa-slates.m2v
Could not initialize laserdisc player!

Shutting down video display...

Your paths ARE NOT correct. If you look at what you have posted in the past your answer will present itself.

JeffereyG, look very closely at your command line out put, and you'll see the source of your problem. Instead of declaring the name/path of the game you are trying to run, you are instead using the phrase seektest; in this case it should be sa for Space Ace. The proper path should look simmilar to the folowing according to the Daphne documenation:
Code:
daphne sa vldp -framefile "sa.txt"

Don't forget to also doublecheck the provided Daphne Documentation on Command Line usage whenever this type of situation arises. Good luck to you.

I entered the command line exactly as you suggested, lowlight. It resulted in the following log file:

--DAPHNE version 0.99.7
--Command line is: D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\daphne.exe ace vldp -preset 1 -framefile sa.txt
--CPU : GenuineIntel 3200 MHz || Mem : 1280 megs

Then I went on to create the subdirectory and copy all of the files to D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\mpeg\sa

That resulted in this log:

--DAPHNE version 0.99.7
--Command line is: D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\daphne.exe ace vldp -framefile D:\downloads\daphne-0.99.7-win32\roms\ace\sa.txt -bank 0 00000000 -bank 1 00100001

So it definitely read the framefile. Is it possible that "sa-slates.m2v" is corrupt? At every step its told me that it could not open sa-slates.m2v for the past three days.

I do have an email address that I can put out here for any available help, links, etc., etc. I read the Forum rules and see nothing disallowing the posting of my addy.

It is a disposable address that I just reactivated tonight for this purpose, so I don't care what spambots harvest it.

Please contact me at meanfire@hotmail.com with any help you can give.

At the moment I'm downloading Dragon's Lair 2 in the hope that I can get at least one game to work, e.g., problems particular to one game may not be pertinent to another.

Thank you to everybody for all the help, advice, and general support. Playing these games is something I've wanted for too long to give up easily.

This violates the forum rules (discussing downloaded mpegs). Let's not continue this thread please ... currently the _only_ way we should be discussing getting these games working is by using the DVD2DAPH tool.
