Per the rules, my .log file info is below.
Don't know if we will need it for my issue, but there it is.
I'm sitting in the chat room arount 5pm CST, seems to be no activity
at this hour. :(

As I posted in a different thread, I'm using Daphne on a Mame Cabinet
with a 27" TV and am doing a video conversion of the Dragon's Lair
HD clips to be able to be used in Daphne.

I have Zero experience with the frame file, except for editing the
first line with the path to the video files. I've always been dependant
on frame files that are created for me by the video converters.
So if this turns out to be a frame file issue, I will post it as well so you
can see what I have.

My issue is this. Once scene so far in partiuclar (which is the only scene holding me back from getting to the dragon's lair) seems to be giving me problems at the end of the scene....
The electric knight (electric floor) where dirk starts with the sword on the right. (I believe this is the reversed screen-DLS30.VOB.M2V)
The video normally ends as dirk starts to jump through the doorway.
(using rom F2) but for some reason the rest of the scene is playing through, where he walks down the steps.

I think I have one other problem to report - but I need to do a little more testing to come up with an absolute diagnosis.
It appears that when the last scene (dragon's lair) is to play, I get a death scene, that continually repeats itself.
But I just want to concentrate on the first issue first, with the extended scene.

Every single video clip converted over and plays back perfectly, up to this screen - move timing matches frame for frame, etc. I'm very very happy with the results. Just this one screen is playing longer than it should.

If someone could help me with this problem, I'd appreciate it.

Here is my frame file incase it helps:

I just found out that after a transfer of one of my files,
when I renamed the .vob, I rename one clip
DSL28.VOB instead of DLS28.VOB,
so DVD2DAPH didnt convert that clip.

That may explain why my errors are happening....
I'm re-running dvd2daph on all my converted clips and should
have a finished set in minutes...

GOT IT! :o
It works perfectly.

It was that one .vob file that I accidentally named wrong. It was throwing
the other clips off, becasue DVD2DAPH could not find the file to convert it.
Now when I play the electric floor/knight, the scene ends when it should.
And I don't have my 2nd problem anymore either.
I just played a whole game with my converted HD footage and
it looks so SWEET!

The .wmv files on the HD DVD match all the files (length and content)
on the DVD Rom (different file names, mind you)
So if you have a program that can convert .wmv files to .vob files,
(I used NeroVision Express) you can in essance 'recreate' the structure
of the DVD Rom disk and then run DVD2DAPH to convert the clips
into the .m2v and .ogg files that are needed for Daphne.
Thats all I did. Simple conversion.
Now, time to go finish up a few more death scenes.. and I should be all done!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

this is not true. If you do the conversion this way, your game will not be frame accurate. Just FYI.

Thanks for the info chip.
Yes, I'm sure thru my method of conversion that the #of frames are slightly off and will not match perfectly.
But as long as it looks and feels accurate, this is fine with me.
Still much better than anything DigitalLeisure has put out. :)
And I cant tell any differences with prior versions of Daphne w/my
ripped DVD footage.

With Digital Leisure's HD clips, along with Daphne and the tools to do the conversion,
I am more than happy with what I ended up with.

Thanks again to everyone who provided this emulator for us.
My Dragon's Lair experience is almost complete now.
(after going through almost every version of DL made for any console
or computer....)

...Looks like there were a handful of differences between the files
on the DLDVDROM and the Dragon's Lair HD DVD.

No one will ever find this useful since they will not convert the video
the way I did, but here is what I had to 'change' to get the
HD Clips to match the DLDVDROM clips.

1) I found out that the DLDVDROM is missing a death scene in the fire
room. If it were to be there, it would be called DLS13D2.VOB
The death scene IS on the HD version as file xS14D2.wmv

Since In my conversion I'm matching all the VOB files on the DLDVDROM,
I'm leaving the file out. Hopefully DVD2DAPH is programmed NOT to
look for this file during conversion.

2) On the HD DVD, pertaining to the Reversed Horse scene...
The end of game clip xS34B.wmv (skeleton clip) has a death scene included
in it. The death scene needed to be cropped off. (The death scene IS
in its own file already, but somehow got included in the 'B' clip.)

3) On the HD DVD, there are 2 mudmen death scenes that needed
to be merged together. The orginal DLDVDROM had these two scenes
together in one clilp.
xS26D1 and xS26D2 need to be merged into one file, resulting in DLS33D1.VOB on the DLDVDROM.

...Boy.. I was really into this.
Knowing this, I should be able to rip thru the anamorphic conversion
pretty quickly. :)

Hi Smashtvguy,

>(...Looks like there were a handful of differences between the files

Interesting...

>(No one will ever find this useful since they will not convert the video

Not True, some, like myself may find this Information very useful.

>(1) I found out that the DLDVDROM is missing a death scene in the fire
room. If it were to be there, it would be called DLS13D2.VOB
The death scene IS on the HD version as file xS14D2.wmv)

This Difference is actually oppisite to what you say...
That Scene should not even be there on the DLHD Disc. It's not the Death Scene for that Scene. It's the Death Scene of the reverse Smitty Scene from xS33D1, which is there. But nice find, though.

In the Original Dragon's Lair Arcade game, they used the Dirk walking through the Arch and catching on fire for both Deaths. If you had Dirk go through the Arch, you saw the whole Death Scene play out. If you had Dirk just stand there and did nothing, The Death Scene would play out with the first part of the Scene Cropped and only show Dirk Catching on Fire, only. This is the way it is on the Original Laser Disc.

>(2) On the HD DVD, pertaining to the Reversed Horse scene...
The end of game clip xS34B.wmv (skeleton clip) has a death scene included
in it. The death scene needed to be cropped off. (The death scene IS
in its own file already, but somehow got included in the 'B' clip.))

Not on mine. That must have happened during your conversion.

>(3) On the HD DVD, there are 2 mudmen death scenes that needed
to be merged together. The orginal DLDVDROM had these two scenes
together in one clilp.
xS26D1 and xS26D2 need to be merged into one file, resulting in DLS33D1.VOB on the DLDVDROM.)

The 2 Mudmen Death Scenes are actually separated. They each have the end of them having the Blacking out Circle. But it dose look like the way they were animated, that they should have been merged together without the first part having the Blacking out Circle. This is the way it is on the Original Laser Disc, as well.

Keep up the Great Work you are doing, and keep me Informed. I like to here of people doing there own thing with Daphne and LD Games in trying to do something Different and even better than the Original Game.

Yours Truly,

Tony M. Victorino

yep, those are the types of differences to which I was referring. You'll probably find other minor issues pop up too. :)

Unfortunately the HD disc can't easily be tacked into dvd2daph, as you've discovered. A conversion utility for the HD disc would have to go back to the drawing board and compare each scene to the LD again to make sure everything lines up perfectly.

On the flip side, if you're happy with what you end up with, then that's all that matters. :)

Thanks for the input guys.

Tony,
Pertaining to #2, I can actually click on the .wmv file right on the
HD DVD and see the two clips merged into one. Odd that
you do not see that.

Other than those issues... I got the whole game converted, and the
re-run with DVD2DAPH, and it is woking fine.
There are 2 or 3 scenes where the scenes end a little prematrurely,
(which chip had warned me about since the scenes may not start
on the same frames as the LD)
I'm considering going into those 2 or 3 scenes and cropping the beginning
off by maybe 1 quarter of a second, so the end of the scene plays
(where the doors close at the end of the scene)

Chip,
Yes, I can see how a whole new conversion utility would have to be made to handle these differences...
I'm fine doing the 'manual' process, now that I am familiar with what to
look for.

Almost time to start on the animorphic version.

Ah, I found it. It's on the Wide Screen Video, but it's not on the Full and Animorphic Screen Video's. So, you may want to see if there is any other differences between the different Video versions.

If you are using Daphne and you are using Dragon's Lair's Original F2 Roms, some of the scenes do play a little short normerally.
Dave H.'s DLE 2.0 uses the most Video in the Game. But some of the moves are different from the original, because he wanted to have moves based more directly on the way th animation plays.

But Chip is right about needing to make sure that the First Frame # of each scene maches the Frame # of the Laser Disc.

Yours Truly,

Tony M. Victorino

Good Find.

Oh great. ;)
I haven't looked at the video for the other versions yet.
Looks like I'm in for more surpises as I go along.

This seemed the best topic to ask my question in, while I'm new and can't create posts..plus it's not been touched for a couple of months.

Basically, being a total newbie to Daphne, but having a huge experience knowledge of arcade games, including 6 in my garage.
Where on earth do we get the DVD's from ?

It seems such a daft question, but all i've seen are postings online a few times about some guy on Amazon.com who was advertising DVD's, yet they arrived as CD's. 20th Anniversary Dragons Lair and yep all the Digital Leisure fuss.

I'm particularly interested in GP World and other odd titles. But all I see are Dragons Lair references and a huge focus on Digital Leisure. Digital Leisure aren't laserdisc full stop..yet i've seen no references to how to obtain legal copies of the other games on DVD.
How do you play the other ones ?

Finally - I own the full board set for MACH 3 and this prompted my interest in Daphne. I'm left very confused about how to make a legal machine, which would at least have the MACH 3 boards within it (if no way was found to get them to talk to a DVD), but may have a PC driving the cabinet.

Any help would be gratefully received :)
And please remember not to laugh...you were new to this once ;)

Yeah, it's the beta i'm using..but it seems that only the DL ones have available files online (files which are on the DVD's in any case).

I don't mean to be rude, but this has been stated many times before. Every author of any emulator has every right to prevent any possible legal problems. The whole DVD requirement for the Digital Leisure titles is just to prevent that. I actually like the idea because I actually OWN all of the DVD's that currently work with this emulator. It feels good. ^_^

Oh me too and no offence taken. Last year I built a multigame Defender cab, running from Compact Flash powered PC and running several games via own written menu. I bought and fitted every original game board in the rear of the machine ! People seemed confused though on Ebay lol. These days it seems to be 48 in 1 boards and no regard to legalities.

Digital Leisure have every right to expect fair play. My interests are with all the games, particularly MACH 3, while I own the full boardset.
