Get this and follow the included instructions. Then configure Daphne to use the VLDP.

--DAPHNE version 0.99.7

You must specify a -framefile argument when using VLDP.
If you didn't, then this is the problem. :)

All that aside however, once you go and legally obtain an mpeg, here's some advice- it sounds like you guys haven't selected your laserdisc player type. First delete .dat files if you have them... then:

1) start daphneloader
2) highlight (click) the game you want to setup/play
3) click "configure"
4) click the "laserdisc" tab
5) under "player type" select "Virtual LDP (MPEG/Ogg)"
6) under "MPEG frame information file" browse to your framefile
7) click edit
if your path was correct, your framefile will open. Go to step 8.
if you get an error, your path is incorrect. Go back to step 6 and correct it.
8.) make sure the top line of your framefile is the exact path of your mpeg directory. It must end with a "/"
9) save and close the framefile
10) click "ok" in the "configure [game name]" window
11) click start. if the path in your framefile is correct, the game will start.

Hope this helps.

edited 'cause my 8.) came out as an 8)

Can someone please help me , I have tried to follow Chip's instructions as laid out here but I still get the following in my Daphne Log

You need to put the frame number offset before the name of the .m2v in the framefile.

E:\Games\daphne\roms\sdq\
sdq.m2v

It should be

E:\Games\daphne\roms\sdq\
xx sdq.m2v

with xx being the number to offset the mpeg. Refer to the documentation about how to find the correct offset using seektest.

yes, this is all explained in the wiki:

http://www.daphne-emu.com/wiki/

If you don't understand something, please let us know exactly which part you are having trouble with so we can make it more clear for everyone. Or, feel free to edit it yourself!

BTW, that quote from an old post of mine above is really old... be warned, I'm not sure those exact steps are still valid in new versions of daphne.

I am sorry for my pathetic NooB responses here , it must be quite infuriating for you , I cannot even find the seektest to get the offset for the mpeg

Is it in the daphne loader ?

There's a checkbox next to Player Type when you configure Super Don that turns on and off seektest. Before you go through the proceedure below, put in a temporary value for the offset in your framefile. '0' will work fine.

Seektest Documentation

You can ignore the top part of that doc since it tells you how to run seektest from the command line. Read from "You may receive a message informing you...."

I have looked at the seektest documentation and got to the following

(you can also use DaphneLoader to do this; instead of 'yourframefile.txt', you need to supply the name of the frame file that you created)

Please take a look at my screenshot below , this is where I try to input the location for my framefile

Image

Is this correct ?

Below is the framefile with a dummy value of zero

Here is my latest daphne log

Below is from the daphne seektest documentation page

You may receive a message informing you that the mpeg file needs to be parsed. If you receive this message, just hit a key to continue. Parsing can take a while (10 minutes sometimes) so just sit back and relax and watch the little red line that draws itself from left to right. When your file is done parsing, continue reading these instructions.

I just hit a key when I get the parse message but it doesnt continue to parse , or not that I can see because I just get another error message from daphne

You seem to have ignored this very meaningful and significant error message. On the second line it is expecting a number followed by a string, but as you can see, the second line of your framefile only has a string.

How to create a framefile

I am getting nowhere with this , if you look at my earlier post you will see the contents of my framefile , I dont have a clue here

Could someone please post a framefile so I have an idea what they actually look like.I cant get the Daphne Loader to run a seektest to verify the framefile

Where is the framefile supposed to go ? Is it supposed to go in the framefile folder in my daphne folder or it supposed to go where the m2v and ogg files are in my roms folder in daphne

You put the 0 in the wrong place

E:\Games\daphne\roms\sdq\00
sdq.m2v

instead do this

E:\Games\daphne\roms\sdq\
0 sdq.m2v

If you click on that link I pasted, you will find two examples of simple framefiles as well as the answer to your question about where the framefile is supposed to go.

Sorry for the size of this image but there we go

Image

This is the contents of my daphne folder

The framefile folder you can see is empty
The images folder has many images from Space Ace , Dragons Lair and others
The pics folder has allsorts of L.E.D bitmap files from what looks like the original Space Ace Arcade games
The roms folder has a sub folder in it called sdq which inside that folder are the following :
framefile.txt
sdq.m2v
sdq.ogg
SDQ_A8.ROM
sdq_c45.rom
sdq-char.bin
sdq-cprm.bin
sdq-prog.bin

The sound folder has lots of different wav files

I have looked at the documentation section many times and it just isnt working for me

My framefile reads precisely as follows
.
0sdq.m2v

Finally here is my latest daphne log
I am sorry for my ineptitude at this , this is not a wind up , I am not a complete NooB when it comes to pc's but this is frustrating me , so I can only imagine how irritated you might be

You need a space between the 0 and the sdq.m2v

If you tell us what parts of the documentation are confusing, or what questions came up in your mind as you read it, then we can improve them and make them easier for the next person who comes along and grapples with this problem.

Don't feel too badly; framefiles are the major stumbling block for most people.

It's currently just a greyscale palette. Early on I tried red for the LED segments to get a more "authentic" look, but I found it to be hard to see when the background was dark, and in both DL and SA a dark background is pretty much the norm. The white segments (to me, at least) just seemed to work the best all around, so that's the way it ended up... If anyone is so inclined (can't promise I can get around to it), other colors could certainly be added to the palette in a future version. I think etumor's use of dark grey for the "unlit" segments is a great suggestion, too.
