I'm going to convert the Dragon's Lair HighDef DVD for use in Daphne,
but am unsure if I want to use the 16:9 video or the 4:3.

I love 16:9 stuff now a days, but don't like when the 4:3 footage
is just cropped on the top and bottom to create the 16:9 effect.
...But when using Daphne's Score Overlays, it looks very nice in the
black portion of the screen.

I also would like fullscreen 4:3 to have DL running in all its glory...
Such a delima.

Crap. I'm going to end up doing them both. ;)

If you had to pick one, which one would you pick?

I wouldn't use either. I'd pick the anamorphic over both of them to make sure the full image is there at the same aspect ratio it was on the film.

If you're going to do this, a nice thing to do might be to save a tmpeg template that others can grab, open, and just click a "start" button to convert their discs. Heck, you could make three templates - one for each version of the footage.

Good call..
I'll probably work on the 16:9 and the anamorphic.

Sorry, don't know what a tmpeg template is. I'm sure my ways of
doing the conversion would be frowned upon
, even though the
end result looks much much much nicer than any LD or DVD rip
I've seen.

What I'm doing (and feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong- and what I really should do)
is I'm loading each High Def .wmv file into Nero Vision Express 2.
Then in NVE2, I'm writing taking that file
and writing it as a DVD to a Hard Drive folder, thus getting
.VOB files as end results for each clip.
Somewhere else on my computer I have a copy of my DLDVDROM folder.
All I'm doing is re-naming my new .VOB clips to match the files names
in the DLDVDROM folder and overwriting the original, less quality, .vobs.
After all the newly created VOBs are in place, I run DVD2DAPH
to do the conversion for Daphne, and it turns out great.

Ive tested this method with the intro clip and 2 scenes and it turns out and plays just fine.

Like I said, I'm Downgrading it to 720x480 and the bitrate is about 9700, which is
not preffered, I'm sure... but this is just for playback on my 27" TV in
my cabinet, and it looks a hundred times better than what I'm using now
from the DVD ROMS.

Let the bashing begin.

..Its working great.
Just played a full game through and all the clips are starting/ending when they should and timing seems practically dead on. If there is anything out of whack, I'm not noticing it.

Time to convert a few more death scenes, and the 16:9 transfer will be done.

A tmpeg template is commonly used in TMPGenc authoring tools.

Hi smashtvguy,

I bought the DLHD DVD, myself. And I am Loving it.

IMO. It is the Best PC version of Dragon's Lair made, so far.
And watching and playing with the Remastered Video makes it more than worth it.

I am glad that they did the 3 different versions of the video.
I for one like the Anamorphic Video the Best, because it shows all of the animation that was cropted from the Original LD Footage, so it would fit a Monitor Screen.

But if someone wants to play Dragon's Lair with the most authintic gameplay outside of playing it on an original arcade machine, Daphne is the Best way to play. Period!

But for you that have the skill to merge the Best of Both Versions, I wish you all the Best. I too would love to Play Dragon's Lair on Daphne using the DLHD Footage, if it could be done without looking like crap and the gameplay doesn't suffer.

I would love to here any progress on this. Maybe there is hope for a DLHD DVD2DAPH for Dummies...

Yours Truly,

Tony M. Victorino
