It's good that IE pops up a big warning box, because I am using a self-signed certificate.
I don't doubt that some users are thrown off by this. In fact, I am surprised that no one has really complained about this before.
I am running SSL because I believe that it's better to have a self-signed SSL certificate than to send passwords in cleartext over the internet.
I'd love to have a valid cert but last I checked they were fairly expensive and this message board doesn't really benefit me very much anyway, so I don't see it is a very worthwhile investment. If other people want to organize the funds necessary to get the SSL cert, I would certainly implement one.
