There is now only one recommended way to play Dragon's Lair, and if you follow this recommendation, you will have a very high chance of getting Dragon's Lair to work.

1 - Download the latest version of Daphne (currently v1.0 beta but this will change)
2 - Run DaphneLoader
3 - Select Dragon's Lair
4 - Press Start
5 - Follow the prompts and Dragon's Lair will be auto-downloaded and auto-configured.

It is possible to get Dragon's Lair working using other methods, but none of them are this easy, none of them are recommended, and you will be on your own if you do not follow our recommendations.

You will need a valid DVD to use this method.

And the 20th anniversary dvd box set is the definitive source, right? (I looked but couldn't find you saying this.)

Will any version work with beta? Also, what is the full complement of games supported in Daphne come to in size?...is it smaller than with .99.7?

Almost every known Dragon's Lair DVD that Digital Leisure has sold will work. The new HD releases will not work and I have no plans to support them at this time.

Here is a list of Dragon's Lair DVD's that will work:
DVD-ROM
DVD-Video (original NTSC)
DVD-Video (20th anniversary)
DVD-Video (PAL version)
DVD-Video (PAL version, PSW)

The reason why i asked before trying,is that i have a slow internet connection and 880 MB to download is alot (for me).

But thanks for your reply.

Hehe

But it worked just fine,i´m really happy to finally play DL without any lag between scenes.
I just let Daphne take care of anything, and no problems accured.
Great job.

Maybe some of the scenes stops to early,is there a way to fix that ?

Thanks in advance.

sorry what I meant was If I play it in a DVD program like WIN DVD, Power dvd it does have music and sounds. In Daphne only the sound works but no music. The other games Space Ace and DL2 work fine in Daphne, they have sound and music.

Stereo sound is probably not working properly on your computer. What you are describing sounds like you are only getting one of the audio channels.

you need to point it to a real DL2 dvd, not your daphne files.

The way I read your post, you allowed daphne to download your DL2 files. If this isn't true and you have your own files, you should be more clear.

Yes, you can still use your own rips. That functionality is supported by daphne, however it is not supported in this forum.

What are the 3 gigs of files that daphne downloads for if you still have to have a DVD to play DL?

Also, the files that daphne has downloaded have an extension of .bf Am I supposed to do something ? rename them? move them?

After you have downloaded the files from Daphne - folllow the instructions that appear when you click on Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II, Space Ace, or Thayer's Quest when you start to try to play them. DAPHNE will tell you what you need to do next. (Which involves placing before mentioned game's DVD into you dvd-drive)

Hey folks. I am hoping someone here can assist me.

I have the latest version of Daphne version 1.0 - 2.2.0 (that is what is displayed in Daphne Loader). I have the video files downloaded and it asks for the DVD. I have the 20th Anniversary (normal DVD version, NOT the HD) and it says to "Insert one of the following...". It responds with "A compatible disc cannot be found automatically..." and asks me to navigate to the root. If I select just the D: in explorer, or the various sub directories for the DL game, but it doesn't recognize any of them. It will not let me proceed.

Any idea where my problem may lie?

Thanks in advance!

I am using the recommended method with the 20th anniversary DVD-ROM collection.

When I start DL1, I get the reduced-size black window, and it beeps.
Then I am solicited in quick succession to insert coins and choose 1 or 2 players, but there is not enough time to respond and the intro video starts.
After that, I am solicited again but not giving me a chance to respond. The intro video starts again, this time allowing me to input. I hit the 5 key a few times and then the 1 key. The game starts, but everything is so speeded up that Dirk gets killed 3 times in different scenes and the game is over. Everything seems too fast and choppy.

I am using an eMachines (I know, I know...) T2240 w/Intel Celeron 2.2GHz cpu + 1 GB RAM.

Here is my log:

--DAPHNE version 1.0.0
--Command line is: daphne.exe lair vldp -framefile vldp_dl/lair/lair.txt -blank_searches -min_seek_delay 1000 -seek_frames_per_ms 20 -homedir . -bank 0 11111001 -bank 1 00100111 -sound_buffer 2048 -x 640 -y 480
--CPU : GenuineIntel 2150 MHz || Mem : 1024 megs
--OS : Windows XP/.NET || Video : Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller
--OpenGL: Compiled In
--RGB2YUV Function: MMX
--Line Blending Function: MMX
--Audio Mixing Function: MMX
Setting alternate home dir:

Setting sound buffer size to 2048

not really to familiar with emachines but are the drivers and such up to date on it? What video card are you running?
For me playing on a standalone DVD player is terrible. I have no such problems with Daphne and choppy video.

The video is an Intel 82845G graphics controller contained on the mother board. I think I can add my own board. If so, any recommendations?

I've never seen this before when using the recommended method and can't think of what could be causing it. I am inclined to think it is something unique to your system, but I have no idea what. Your specs look reasonable.

Just a quick one from a newbie if you don't mind.

I was wondering how could I enable the "service/testing mode" in DL with DLE ROMs. My "9" key doesn't work in DLE but it works in Revision F2. Maybe it needs some additional keypress along with the "9" or something?
I want to test those colourbars in the screen-test that the arcade manual mentions. In original F2 there's Dirk skeleton instead.

I know it sounds pretty odd for a question coming from a newbie but... I tend to be very perfectionist with these things you see...

Thanks in advance for your attention and please accept my apologies for my crappy english...
