I just got the 30-day demo of TGF and was playing around with it tonight.
I got a few things to work, but still have a few questions, incase anyone
else has messed around with this.

At this point, I have a 20 second (Luke vs. Vader) clip of ESB that I am working with,
containing 3 basic moves, and 1 death scene that is shared
(Luke getting his arm chopped off... what else!?)

Here is what I've achieved so far...
1) Got the main video to play
2) Got my 3 main moves to accept, that allow the video to continue
3) Got those moves to have to be entered within a certain time frame
4) Got the death scene to play if a wrong move is put in during that
time frame, or if no move is put in.
5) Got the sound effects to play. a) if an unrecognized move is entered,
(during the time where no move is to be entered)
b) if a correct move is entered and c) if a wrong move is entered

Here is what I've noticed....
1) The white screen between scenes. When the 'main scene clip' plays
all the way through, it plays smooth.
2) Only when I have to stray from the path of correct video, I get the
'flash of white' screen that everyone has mentioned.
I don't find the white flash to be distracting, becasue as you put in
'correct' moves, the video plays smooth and flawlessly without break.
When the white does actually show (for a death move) it just reminds
me of a LaserDisc seek. (would be nice if I could make it black!!!)

Here is a question I have for right now:
I have too many steps coded in for certain criteria.
For example, when I just want to play a sound if moves are entered,
say, during a non-accepting move period...
I have 5 if>then commands.
If move=up then beep
If move=down then beep
If move=left then beep
If move=right then beep
If move=space then beep

I'd love to combaine these and say that (for example)
if move=left or move=right or move=up or move=down or move=space
THEN beep.

Anyone know how to perform an 'OR' command in TGF?
Does that make sense?

Hey! What I've accomplished so far with Games Factory is EXACTLY what you've done. I'm really excited about this engine. But I'd REALLY like to know how I can make a game like NIGHT TRAP...anybody familiar with that game? It was released on the Sega CD and other platforms. If you're NOT familiar with that game, then allow me to try to describe what I'm trying to do:

1. I want to have a timer that runs throughout the game in every room. I guess I could just make a global timer object? How?
2. OK. Say I have two rooms playing two different videos. How can I make it so that if the player leaves the one room to go to the other, the previous room will continue playing the video even though the player isn't in that room. So then if the player returns to the previous room, the video will have been running while he wasn't there.

Also, SmashTV...I figured out a way to eliminate that white flash. I'm not sure if it's practical, but it works with no flash and no pause....
--Use a video editor (like VideoStudio 9...I got the 30-day trial) and combine your room mpeg with your death scene mpeg. Put the death at the end. So when you want the death scene, do this in the event editor:

*Timer equals 06"-00 (or whenever the death scene should appear)
+Counter = 0 (that's if you use counters to tell if the player hit the right button...I do...is there a better way?)

Now, in the mpeg box you put Select Mpeg Position to>A Time Position...you always must select PLAY in the same box/circle.

Now when you play the game it will go to that scene when the player is gonna die...just be sure to add an event that says to end the frame or jump to a scene when the death clip is over.

Again, I'm not sure if it's practical, but it works. I guess the only problem is that if you want to use the same death scene in other rooms...then every room that has it will have to have that mpeg included with it, thus making the files bigger. So I'm not even sure I'd use it.

I'D ALSO like to know how to do an 'OR' command so I don't have to put in so much additional code.

Yes, I'm familliar with Night Trap.
Sounds like you have some big plans for this game.

You talked about using a Timer... is this what allows you to jump
around to a different frame in a clip?

I am using counters for the moves and also to control when
certain sounds can be heard (wrong joystick moves)
I havent been able to get the program to work with any video clips
larger than that of a Video-CD.

I might be using overlays just to incorporate some kind of flash
(a la DL) for movements, or if that doesnt work, I may have to tweak
frames of the actual video...?

We might have to put our heads together to come up with some answers.
My issue is that I don't have much spare time to devote to this stuff.
Maybe a little time a week, but thats about all...

Don't know.. I'll start a new thread under the brainstorming topic...
I'd hate to get off on another tangent in this thread....
