i am trying to get space ace up and running but am at witts end

--DAPHNE version 0.99.7
--Command line is: C:\Program Files\daphne\daphne.exe sae vldp -framefile C:\Program Files\daphne\LASERDISKS\sadvdrom\ace_framefile.txt -fullscreen
--CPU : GenuineIntel 3200 MHz || Mem : 2048 megs
--OS : Windows XP/.NET || Video : NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT

This looks like the issue:

Could not open file : C:/Program Files/daphne/LASERDISKS/sadvdrom/./sadvdrom/sa-slates.m2v

there is a /./ that looks like it. Check your frame file

A "." means "current directory" which shouldn't cause a problem for daphne. But yeah, this is a framefile issue. I doubt you have an "sadvdrom" folder inside an "sadvdrom" folder. Be sure to check that out.
