I have put up v0.99.6pre4 for Windows in the download section. Everyone should download this and test it for UNKNOWN bugs. Don't wait until the final v0.99.6 is released because bug fixes for that version will probably only go into the CVS!

Unknown Bugs are defined as things which used to work in v0.99.5a but which are now broken in these v0.99.6 binaries. We don't need to know about bugs that still haven't been fixed since 0.99.5a.

Don't make the mistake of waiting until the final v0.99.6 is released only to discover that a huge bug exists that you could've told us about.

Once the final v0.99.6 binaries are released, the 0.99.5 binaries will be REMOVED from the download section (to save space) so... once again, the importance of testing cannot be over emphasized.

Testing reports should be posted in this thread (everyone should have the ability to reply to this post, if not, post somewhere else and let me know).

 Post subject: Daphne Loader Problem
PostPosted: Tue Apr 01, 2003 8:11 pm
Hello,

I had the following problem with daphne loader:

Run-time error "339"
component "mscomct2.ocx" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I have downloaded the ocx files and extracted them to the windows system directoryand typed in the required command lines. I have also installed the VB6 Runtimes.

The version I used before this was daphne 0.99.4. I remember having a similar problem to this when I first installed daphne but it was solved by installing the ocx and VB6 files so I don't know if this is a bug with the new 0.99.6 version of daphne loader or its me missing something.

Thanks.

Is there a change log for this release, there doesn't seem to be a readme that lists the changes?

I had no problems running the latest version.

Is it too late to request that the following are disabled when 0.99.6 prior to actual release?

Disable:

Use YUV Flipping
Use RGB Flipping

Windows media player 9 has this functionality and enables mpegs to be played with the ArcadeVGA card without any stretching problems. If it can be done I would gladly test it for you prior to actually including it in the release code.

Seems like the only problems people are having so far are with OCX files in daphneloader. That's a good sign :)

I don't know what media player means when it is talking about disabling YUV flipping and RGB flipping. Is this different than clicking the box in daphneloader to disable hardware acceleration?

Looks like I was wrong, I think you are correct, disabling both is the same in WMP as disabling h/w acceleration.

Thanks for the new version. No bugs to report.

Happy that I can now take screenshots of Dragon's Lair.
Also, the old version used to take about 5 mins with a blank screen before Dragon's Lair would run on my computer (that's all I've got for Daphne at the moment), but now it only takes about 20 seconds. Excellent.

PostPosted: Fri Apr 04, 2003 11:01 am
I'm happy to say this version fixed the flicker problem I was experiencing in fullscreen with my video card.

In 99.5a I'd get a regular flicker in non windowed moded only.

Thanks alot! :P

Matt,

Is rom zip support enabled in the win build of Daphne? I've tried to launch a game with the roms zipped, but daphne screams that they are missing. As an example, i've zipped up the Space Ace roms, named it ace.zip and kept it in the .\roms\ace subfolder of Daphne without success. I've also moved the zip to the root folder of daphne with similar results.

Just curious to see if it is supported and if so, what i might be doing wrong.

TIA,

RCade

Hmmm,

A simple matter of placing the zips in the ROMS folder. Now why didnt i think of that LOL. The only one im having a problem with now is Space Ace Enhanced. I've zipped the files up as sae.zip including the readme.txt file but Daphne complains that it can't find that txt file? Any clues? Not a biggie as i'll just keep the files in the directory for now.

TIA,

RCade

Yes, that problem with the text file not being read when SAE is in a .zip file is a bug in daphne ...

good find.

I noticed the flickering bug for ati cards is finally gone. It's nice to be able to use hardware acceleration again. :)

Just a general question.... did you update the warning messages? I was just curious because they seem to be exactly the same as the past few builds.

Keep up the good work and thanks.

Are there any warning messages that need to be updated?

Well I don't know, that's why I was asking. :) I was wondering about progress with esh ect.... as some still have prelimenary driver warnings.

Regarding the flickering issue... I followed that thread and tried some of the fixes posted but still had issues with them until now. It works REALLY well now, I'm very impressed btw.

Hehe maybe you are using the "unfinished" version of daphne loader? As the name implies, it is very unfinished and has only the bare essential functionality. The regular DaphneLoader.exe is the one that you need to use if you want full functionality.

Hi, I guess I discovered a tiny bug

I tried to do an MPEG seektest with Dragon's Lair, so I clicked MPEG Seek Test in the corresponding Configuration section of DaphneLoader 1.2, then clicked on OK and then on Start.

Daphne gave me an error message, and here's my Daphnelog.txt

Code:
--DAPHNE version 0.99.6pre4
--Command line is: E:\DAPHNE-BETA\daphne.exe seektest vldp -preset 0 -framefile E:\dlrepro\lair24-repro.txt -fullscreen -bank 0 10011000 -bank 1 11010111 -x 720 -y 480 -noserversend
--CPU : AuthenticAMD 1000 MHz || Mem : 256 megs
--OS : Windows 98 || Video : Voodoo3 AGP
NOTE: The ability to set bank values is not supported in this game
NOTE: The ability to set bank values is not supported in this game
Setting screen width to 720
Setting screen height to 480

I ran Daphne.exe by hand, with all the parameters except the "-bank" ones and everything went fine.

Hi Matt,

I've experienced a problem with space ace enhanced, that on quite a few of the death sequences the game stops, says it's creating a error log and then crashes to desktop. I'm trying to find the error log for you, and there is nothing in eventvwr.

The first one is when the two hairy dog like things run at Dexter when he's energised.

The only thing in the daphne_log.txt is :

"End of Audio Stream Detected!"

I've got the original 99.5a sitting on my machine and it works fine. Both 99.5a and 99.6 pre-release are using the same rom images and framefiles.

I thought it might of been my mpeg files but I've re-ripped the offending m2v files and I still get the same problem.

I've done a search on the forums and there is only one message concerning this in the video ripping section. I'll give adding a couple of seconds blank space in as it says there, but it does work in 99.5a.

Oh yeah, I'm on win2K prof. If you need anymore info please let me know.

Dave

I assume you're using files from the DVD-ROM? Someone else has reported problems with SAE and the DVD-ROM while a third person has reported that SAE works just fine with one huge mpeg. So I suspect this may be a problem with VLDP2.

The only other info I need to know is which skill level you're playing on so I can try to reproduce the problem. In fact, as much info as you can give me to help me reproduce the problem would be nice. If I can't reproduce it, I can't fix it :(

Goal to Go is still broken.

Bega's Battle suddenly stopped supporting bank settings (I have to use game defaults now) and claims it doesn't emulate sound (but it does).

Everything else works as perfectly or imperfectly as before.

I've added this to my list of things to check before release, thx ...

(it is talking about sound effects not sound from the laserdisc)

I am sorry I haven't seen this discussed yet... My Cliff Hanger attract mode shows nothing now... it stays on just the Cliff Hanger words, the game works normally though. This worked ok in the last release of daphne, so I am not sure if it is something I have done or a change with the new version, all the other laserdisc games run great on here though. I use the -bank code (for the longer death scenes) other than that my settings are all default, I even took that code out to see if the attract mode would work again... can anyone shed light on this?
