Maybe I'm just confused, but there didn't actually seem to be any troubleshooting in the intermediate troubleshooting video. It was just explaining that troubleshooting *could* be done if the Dexter was hooked up to a network. Unfortunately, my cabinet is in storage in a space with no internet, so that didn't do me any good. At some point I may well haul my game out of storage and bring it somewhere that I can hook it all up to an internet connection. But I figured the first easy step would be to offer up my symptoms and see if they resembled any known issues.
Fair enough. Unfortunately, a rainbow screen isn't something that sounds familiar to me.
Troubleshooting via the network connection may be a pain to setup, but it is extremely effective. You can tell whether the game is sending anything to the Dexter, and that will help answer questions about dip switches, ROMs, ribbon cables, etc.
